Expert Unveils 10 Rules to Drastically Reduce the Risk of Heart Attack: A Guide to Heart Health

A heart attack, a life-threatening medical emergency, occurs when the blood supply to the heart is obstructed, often by a blood clot, causing severe damage and potential fatality. In a bid to prioritize prevention over treatment, Dr. Mike Hansen, with over a million subscribers on YouTube, has shared his “10 rules” to avoid a heart attack.

While certain factors like genetics and age are beyond control, following these guidelines can significantly diminish the risk. The rules include:

  1. Avoid Cocaine: Dr. Hansen emphasizes the dangers of cocaine, highlighting its adverse impact on the heart, as noted by the American Heart Association.
  2. Quit Smoking: Quitting smoking can reduce the risk of a heart attack by up to 65%, according to Dr. Hansen.
  3. Manage Stress: Outdoor activities, meditation, good sleep, journaling, and spending time with friends and family are recommended to mitigate stress and protect heart health.
  4. Regular Exercise: Ideally, aim for at least 150 minutes of exercise per week, with even a simple walk proving beneficial.
  5. Embrace Intermittent Fasting: Dr. Hansen advocates for intermittent fasting, suggesting time-restricted eating as a practical approach.
  6. Include Omega-3s in Your Diet: Cut out processed foods and focus on sources of omega-3s like salmon, chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds, and walnuts.
  7. Prioritize Vitamins and Minerals: Incorporate foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, emphasizing vegetables, whole intact grains, seeds, and nuts.
  8. Minimize Saturated Fat: Reduce intake of saturated fat, especially from processed meats like pepperoni and bacon.
  9. Avoid Added Sugar and Refined Carbohydrates: Restrict added sugar to less than 25 grams per day to enhance overall health and lower heart attack risk.
  10. Consume Adequate Fiber: Dr. Hansen underscores the importance of soluble and insoluble fiber, suggesting a daily intake of at least 25 to 30 grams for heart health.

By adhering to these rules, individuals can take proactive steps to safeguard their heart health and reduce the likelihood of a heart attack.
