Yasir Masood, a father of two, shared his journey after being diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer, in 2023. Initially experiencing itchy skin, a common sensation for many, Yasir was given just months to live after the diagnosis. Cholangiocarcinoma occurs when abnormal cells in the bile duct multiply uncontrollably and can spread to other organs, such as the gallbladder and pancreas.

While itchy skin may not immediately raise concerns, other symptoms of bile duct cancer include unintended weight loss, yellowing of the eyes and skin (jaundice), and abdominal pain. Bile ducts, which connect various organs in the body, play a crucial role in the digestive system by facilitating the flow of bile from the liver and gallbladder to the small intestine.

Yasir’s wife, Yasmine, expressed their devastation, highlighting Yasir’s healthy lifestyle. The couple faced a significant shift in their lives, with both now dealing with health challenges. Yasir underwent chemotherapy, a treatment that has limited effectiveness for bile duct cancer patients. Opting for a better quality of life, Yasir is now in palliative care.

Hope emerges in the form of Dendritic Cell Therapy, a potential treatment that could extend Yasir’s life. However, the high cost of £30,000 prompted the family to launch a GoFundMe campaign, currently reaching £16,701 from 571 donations, to gather the necessary funds for the treatment.
