Prince William and Duchess Kate’s Stealthy University Romance Revealed

The Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, went to great lengths to conceal their budding romance during their university days, according to claims by royal author Katie Nicholl. The royal couple first crossed paths at St Andrews University in Scotland in 2001 but didn’t officially enter into a relationship until later.

To keep their love story under wraps, William and Kate devised “elaborate cover-ups” during the initial stages of their courtship. Despite having separate bedrooms on different floors, these precautions were mere pretenses by the time they fell in love.

Nicholl, speaking to Vanity Fair in 2010, described their relationship as a “conventional university romance” filled with strategic measures to evade the media frenzy surrounding the future King. She revealed, “In a bid to keep their relationship below the radar for as long as possible, they would leave the house at different times and arrive at dinner parties separately, and made a pact never to hold hands in public.”

The couple successfully kept their connection hidden until 2004 when their relationship went public after they were photographed sharing a kiss on a ski trip. Despite the public acknowledgment of their love, they faced a brief split in April 2007 after nearly five years of dating.

Reflecting on their past during their 2010 engagement interview, William acknowledged their youthfulness, saying, “We were both very young. We were both finding ourselves and such and being different characters and such.” Kate added that, at the time of the split, she wasn’t very happy, but the experience ultimately made her a stronger person, allowing her to discover aspects of herself that she hadn’t realized.
